I offer this poetry in gratitude for the beauty, the nurturance and the wisdom of Nature.
The creative inspiration for these poems arrived out of sleep early in July 2009 along with the sense that they were a gift to be presented for use with
children.
My hope is that these humble verses will engage the hearts of all who hear or read them and serve as a reminder of the essence of ourselves reflected through
the natural phenomena that surrounds us.
Susan Gay is an artist, a Waldorf teacher and art therapist working out of anthroposophy here in Auckland.
I am deeply grateful to Susan for her warmth and willingness to collaborate on this project by creating a unique painting for every poem out of beautiful living plant
colours.

SELF DEVELOPMENT WITH AURA-SOMA®

My journey with Aura-Soma began in the year 2000. During the decade leading up to that time, my energy was directed towards helping others in the community. I began my career as a registered
nurse, went on to complete a graduate Diploma in Counselling and continued to work as a counsellor up until the birth of my first child.
What a profoundly life changing event motherhood is! On one hand, I felt more connected than ever with myself and my body and on the other, especially in those early months, I felt as though
"I" had disappeared under the ever pressing demands of this miraculous, very dependent little being. Alongside the responsibility of bringing this new soul into the world came an innate, yet profound, awakening to my own deeper intuition and a growing desire to explore how to make sense of life
from a different perspective than before. It was around this time that Aura-Soma came into my life.
Aura-Soma equilibrium is a colour care system which brings together the dynamic, living energies of minerals, crystals, herbs and plants into more than 100 dual coloured combinations of
essential oils and water held in glass bottles. Every time I stand in front of a display of these magical jewels of light and colour, I am filled with wonder and delight. These beautiful colour essences speak to the deepest sense of who I am and reconnect me with my own inner truth and knowing.
The name Aura-Soma carries this message - Aura means light, Soma means body or being. Aura-Soma connects the light to the body; it speaks of the being of light within and of the living energies of light that surround us.
Colour is a universal language. It is the breath and life of our soul. The Aura-Soma system recognises the human as a rainbow being of light, that is, each of the energy centres of the body
corresponds to one of the colours of the rainbow. The equilibrium bottles, then, act as a mirror which enables us to recognise ourselves through colour. We each respond uniquely to colour because as Aura-Soma founder Vicky Wall says, "you are the colours you choose and these reflect your
being's needs"
Understanding how colour represents and affects our thoughts and feelings and sense of wellbeing is something man has researched down through the ages. Aura-Soma, which began in England in
1983, is nature's gift to humanity at this time, as more and more of us are seeking a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us. Colour is consciousness and Aura-Soma is a tool that offers us the opportunity to grow in consciousness. It can enlighten us on issues we may be
struggling with, expand our awareness of our gifts and talents, reconnect us to our inner self and assist us to realise our true potential.
I began personally working with the Aura-Soma products after my first experience of seeing the bottles on display and I continue to use them on a daily basis. Aura-Soma's integrity truly
lives in its products which combine organic and bio-dynamically grown ingredients where possible. The fragrances smell divine. You need to use these products to really experience how the Aura-Soma colour range can cleanse, protect, rebalance, revitalise and harmonise the energies in and around
you while supporting you to grow and develop yourself. Some products are used directly on the skin, others are passed through the subtle energy fields around the body, still others can be used to harmonise the energy in the spaces in which you live and work.
Aura-Soma supported me through my next pregnancy and beyond the birth of my second child. While I embraced my role as a mother with absolute love and gratitude, the part of me that needed to
be 'making a difference' in the outer world, eventually grew restless. And so, towards the end of 2003, I established a private counselling practice that could exist alongside the needs of my family. Soon after, I began my training towards becoming an Aura-Soma practitioner. Seven years on and
Aura-Soma has become an integral part of the counselling and self development services I offer to the people I see. The self-selective, non-intrusive and self-empowering aspect of this system is what initially attracted me to its potential to help people make real and lasting changes in their
lives.
As a right brain system, Aura-Soma encourages us to reconnect with our intuition. It helps us to shift from thinking about our problem situations with our heads,to connect with the heart of
the matter. This can bring rapid relief from the sense of mental overload, anxiety or confusion we can find ourselves in when we are having difficulty coping with a stressful situation.
When I first encountered Aura-Soma, I loved that the bottles were my soul's choice.... for who should know me better than myself? They were, and always are, right on the mark in terms
of identifying my innermost ambitions, desires and struggles. As a practitioner, it is so exciting to bear witness to this unfolding awareness in the people who come for consultations. In this age where there are so many experts we can turn to for advice, it is my privilege to reconnect people
to their own source of wisdom within. I see my role as one of supporting my clients to take back responsibility for their own wellbeing so that they can move forward and confidently take control of their own lives.
The holistic nature of Aura-Soma awakens us to new possibilities in terms of how we define ourselves and our relationship to the world around us. Expanding our awareness of the subtle energy
fields in and around the body has a positive impact on health. As we bring more care and attention to the way in which we breathe and move, we become more present to ourselves at every level - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. As a natural therapy, Aura-Soma can be used
alongside other treatments without interfering with their efficacy. Aura-Soma does not diagnose or treat any medical condition, physical or psychological problem; rather it assists the body to heal itself.
It can be beneficial to young and old alike. My own children have used Aura-Soma since they were babies. I have found it to be hugely helpful in gently supporting them through the sometimes
difficult, vulnerable phases of childhood. Just as adults sometimes need the time and space to process and thus integrate life's experiences, so too do children. Aura-Soma offers them that opportunity in a way that is appropriate for their growth and development. Children, generally speaking,
are much more connected to their intuition. They love choosing bottles and instinctively know what the colours signify for them and what they need. Aura-Soma is also a great tool to use with people who may not be able to communicate verbally what is going on for them. This need can be met by
sensitively and respectfully exploring the 'story' that their four bottle selection tells through the colours they choose.
As a counsellor, I find that a large part of the work I do with people involves assisting them to heal the time-line. I recognise that many of the difficulties we experience in our current
life situations and relationships can be traced back to patterns of behaviour we have learned previously. Often these patterns of conditioning are unconscious or subconscious forces that exert themselves to create the things in our lives that we dont want, rather than what we do want. An
Aura-Soma consultation can highlight where that sense of 'stuckness' comes from and, at the same time, reveal what resources we have to choose from, to move forward in a different way. Each colour combination reflects not only the challenge aspect of a particular issue, but the solution or
antidote to bring ease where there has been dis-ease. For example, one of the qualities of blue is the tendency to hold on to something, this could be a hurt or a fear that is preventing us from resolving a particular issue. Expressing how we feel {another blue quality} is the first step
towards releasing that hurt so we can create a space for peace {also a blue quality} to grow in its place.
The wonderful gift of Aura-Soma is that as it is our own greater guide that has selected these specific combinations, we can trust that within ourselves lie the very qualities we are
seeking, to potentially bring about the manifestations of our heart's desire.

What Should I Expect From Our First Visit to an Aura-Soma® Colour Care Practitioner?
During an Aura-Soma Consultation, you will be invited to select the four dual-coloured equilibrium bottles you are most attracted to from the entire range of over 100 bottles. Together with your Aura-Soma
Practitioner you will unfold your own personal colour story the significance of your colour choices relevant to your life situations.
The practitioner will then assist you to choose the Aura-Soma products that can best support you to meet your unique needs. You can purchase your choice of recommended products to begin using straight away at
home. A full adult consultation is likely to take about one hour.
Child Consultations follow a similar process but are shorter and the way in which the colour story is unfolded is tailored to the childs age and developmental needs. Parents are welcome to remain for the
consultation as appropriate.
How Do I Find A Qualified Aura-Soma® Colour Care Practitioner?
The Art and Science International Academy of Colour Technologies [ASIACT] in England, is the parent organization and accrediting body for Aura-Soma training. Training currently comprises four levels. Each level
involves broader and more detailed instruction in the Aura-Soma Colour System. The Academy regulates the Aura-Soma Code of Practice and maintains the Aura-Soma Practitioner Register. Only those practitioners with a current practicing certificate are featured on this register, along with their
level of training.

How Much Does Aura-Soma® Colour Care Cost?
Aura-Soma Consultations are charged at the discretion of each practitioner depending on their level of skill and experience. As a guide, this may be between $60 - $80 per hour.
Please note that the cost of Aura-Soma products is additional to the consultation fee.
Currently Aura-Soma products in NZ fall within a recommended retail price range of $20 - $80 per product.
